Troubleshooting

Common Focus problems and how to fix them.

Installation

“Windows protected your PC” on install

Click More info → Run anyway. The installer is code-signed by StepForward Solutions LLP.

Installer fails

Try running the installer again. If it persists, check Windows Event Viewer for errors mentioning Kaizen Focus and email us the details.

Blocking isn't working

Website still loads even though it's blocked

  1. Check that Focus is running (green tray icon, not grey). If grey, restrictions are paused.
  2. Close and reopen the browser — browsers cache DNS. Chrome's cache especially is persistent.
  3. Flush DNS: open Command Prompt, run ipconfig /flushdns.
  4. Confirm the block is saved (not in “pending” state in My Rules).

YouTube channel block doesn't work but domain block does

Channel blocks depend on browser window watching via Windows UI Automation. Make sure your browser is in the supported list: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, IE, Opera, Brave, Maxthon. Some older or niche browsers aren't hooked.

App Limits

Wrong app is being tracked

Check My Rules → App Limits — is the app correctly identified? For custom apps added by process name, make sure the process name matches exactly (e.g. chrome.exe, not Chrome).

Limits reset too aggressively

Focus resets budgets at midnight system time. If your system time is wrong, budgets reset at weird times. Check Windows clock.

Reports & email

Email reports not arriving

  • Are you on Pro/Premium? Free doesn't include email reports.
  • Is the email address correct in Admin Details?
  • Check spam folder.
  • First-time delivery often takes a day — reports fire between 8pm and 10pm daily.
  • Corporate email filters sometimes block automated reports. Whitelist [email protected].

Lock screen / Pause

Lock screen won't close even after duration expires

Very rare. Fix: right-click the Focus tray icon → Force reload schedule. If the tray icon is missing, restart the KaizenLABWtchr service (Windows Services).

Pause request emails not arriving at admin

Check that the admin email in Admin Details is correct and isn't spam-filtering. Test by clicking Request Pause and waiting a few minutes.

Licensing

“Activation limit reached”

License already active on another machine. Deactivate from there (Admin Details → License → Deactivate) or email support.

“Unable to reach licensing service”

Activation needs one-time internet to https://azfnlic.azurewebsites.net. If you're on corporate network, ask IT to whitelist.

Admin PIN

Forgot admin PIN

Email [email protected] from the email tied to your license. We'll verify identity and send a reset token.

“Wrong PIN” when you're sure it's right

Caps Lock / Num Lock confusion is the usual cause. Also double-check the email field if your email changed — the PIN is tied to the admin account by email.
