Block social media

A sensible starting blocklist for cutting social media out — or rationing it.

The common offenders

Based on which sites most Focus users block first:

  1. Instagram
  2. Facebook
  3. Twitter / X
  4. TikTok
  5. Reddit
  6. LinkedIn (surprising, but yes)
  7. Pinterest
  8. Snapchat (rare on desktop but worth noting)

Option A: Hard block all at once

  1. Open My Rules → Block Sites.
  2. Add each domain with Full domain ticked:
    • instagram.com
    • facebook.com
    • twitter.com + x.com
    • tiktok.com
    • reddit.com
    • linkedin.com
    • pinterest.com
  3. Save.

Option B: Shared daily budget

Use an App Group so all social media shares one limit:

  1. Open My Rules → App Groups.
  2. Create group “Social Media”, add all the sites.
  3. Set a combined daily limit (e.g. 30 minutes/day).

When you've used 30 minutes total across the group, every site in it is blocked for the rest of the day.

Option C: Scheduled

Pair Option B with Downtime:

  • Social Media group limit: 30 min/day
  • Downtime: 22:00–07:00 every day
  • Free Time: none for social media

Result: you can use social media up to 30 min/day, but only during waking hours. No midnight scrolling.

Don't forget the apps

Blocking instagram.com in browsers doesn't block the Instagram Windows app. If you have desktop social-media apps installed, also add them to App Limits by process name.
