Troubleshooting

Common Kaizen Timer problems and fixes.

Installation

Can't find the app in Play Store

Try the direct link: Kaizen Timer on Google Play. If it says “not available in your country”, email us — we're expanding region availability.

Permissions

Lock screen doesn't appear when time expires

The “Display over other apps” permission wasn't granted. Fix:

  1. Android Settings → Apps → Kaizen Timer → Advanced → Display over other apps.
  2. Toggle ON.
  3. Restart Kaizen Timer.

Notification doesn't show while timer runs

Android 13+ requires explicit notification permission:

  1. Android Settings → Apps → Kaizen Timer → Notifications.
  2. Toggle ON.

Timer behaviour

Timer stops when I switch apps

Shouldn't happen — the foreground service should keep it alive. Check:

  • Is battery optimization enabled for Kaizen Timer? If yes, exempt it: Settings → Apps → Kaizen Timer → Battery → Unrestricted.
  • Some Android OEMs (Xiaomi, Huawei) have aggressive background process killers. On these, whitelist Kaizen Timer in the security app's autostart list.

Warnings don't play sound

  • Phone might be in Do Not Disturb mode.
  • Alarm volume might be muted.
  • Media volume vs Alarm volume — our warnings use Alarm stream.

Lock screen

PIN entry doesn't respond

Rare but happens on some older devices. Force-close and reopen Kaizen Timer (Settings → Apps → Kaizen Timer → Force Stop). The lock screen should re-appear; try PIN again.

Biometric doesn't work

  • Is biometric enabled in Kaizen Timer settings?
  • Is biometric enrolled in Android (Settings → Biometrics)?
  • Some older Android versions had bugs; PIN fallback always works.

License / Pro

I paid but I'm still on Free

  1. Open Google Play → Menu → Refresh purchases.
  2. Force-close and reopen Kaizen Timer.
  3. If still stuck, email [email protected] with your order ID.

“License verification failed”

Internet issue. Ensure internet is available, restart the app.

State / settings lost

After an Android update, my PIN reset to 1234

Very rare, but some Android updates clear SharedPreferences. Change the PIN to your secure value and restart.

After reinstall, stats and presets are gone

Expected — there's no cloud backup. Presets rebuild as you use the app; stats reset to zero.
