See Kaizen Locator in action

One ping — lat, long, address, distance back over plain SMS. Zero internet on either side.

Three real situations. One simple tool.

Kids on the way home

School bus running late? Picnic with friends? One ping confirms exactly where they are — no need for them to remember to call back. Works even if their data is off or they’re in a low-signal area.

Senior parents who forget

Phone on silent. Missed your call. They’re fine — just at the temple, or with the neighbour. One Kaizen ping gives you their location and address. Mark them as FAMILY and they can fire an SOS that breaks through your silent mode if they ever truly need help.

Emergencies, period.

Network down. Tower congestion. Festival evening. Internet apps fail; SMS still goes through. Locator works on the most unreliable day of the year. SOS alarm overrides silent and DND on the receiver’s phone — so you can’t miss an actual emergency.

Three taps. Plain SMS. Done.

Both phones need Kaizen Locator installed. After that, it’s pure SMS — no Internet, no accounts, no servers in between.

Add trusted contact screen with contact picker and manual entry
Per-contact policy: Ping Now, Silent Ping, SOS Now
Ping detail with lat/long, address, distance, freshness LIVE
Step 1

Add trusted contacts

Pick from your phonebook or enter a number manually. Default policy is Ask each time — nobody can ping you without your approval until you say so.

Step 2

Tap Ping Now

Locator sends a tagged SMS like [KZL-REQ:abcd]. The receiver’s phone reads the tag, checks your policy, and replies with their location — or asks them first.

Step 3

Get exact location

Latitude, longitude, full address, distance from you, time the GPS was taken. Open in Maps with one tap. Freshness shown as LIVE if under 60 seconds.

Per-contact privacy

You decide who can find you, and when.

Every contact has its own policy. The default for new senders is Ask each time — the safest possible setting. You can upgrade trusted contacts to Always Allow, lock untrusted ones out with Always Deny, or grant a temporary Always-Allow for the next hour, day, or week.

Ask each time

Default for any new sender. A dialog pops up; you tap Allow / Deny / Always-Allow. Nothing leaves your phone until you say yes.

Always allow

Trusted contacts auto-reply with your location. Optionally time-bounded — pick 1h, 4h, 24h, or a full week. Auto-reverts to Ask each time when the deadline passes.

🔕

Always deny

Silently drop incoming pings. The sender gets a polite “can’t share right now” reply — not a not-installed error.

🚨

Family (SOS)

Auto-replies + can sound an emergency alarm on your phone even when silent or DND is on. Use only for genuine emergency contacts.

Mark as FAMILY confirmation dialog
Family SOS · Killer feature

An alarm that won’t be missed.

Phone on silent? Do Not Disturb on? It doesn’t matter. When a Family contact fires an SOS, Locator plays the system alarm tone (the only stream Android lets bypass DND), drops a full-screen RED takeover, vibrates with a heartbeat pattern, and lights up your screen for 60 seconds — until you tap STOP.

  • Foreground service starts instantly on SMS receipt — no app open required
  • Sound on alarm stream — loud, unmissable, DND-bypass
  • Full-screen-intent notification unlocks the lock screen
  • Auto-stops after 60 seconds OR when the receiver hits STOP
  • Auto-replies with the receiver’s location and a confirmation: [KZL-SOSACK:abcd:Xs]
  • Rate-limited to once every 5 minutes per contact — no spam abuse
  • Only contacts you mark as Family can ever fire SOS

Recurring · Silent · Group

Recurring auto-pings

Every 10 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, or once a day — for any trusted contact. Useful for keeping tabs on a child’s commute home or an elderly parent through the day. Off by default; enable per-contact.

Silent ping Pro

For Always-Allow contacts: their phone replies without showing them a notification. Useful for reassurance pings — you don’t want to interrupt every 10 minutes.

Group ping Pro

One tap to ping multiple trusted contacts at once. Family check-in during a holiday, picking the closest person to a destination, anything where you need locations of several people fast.

The SMS messages it sends.

Locator tags every message with a 4-character correlation token [KZL-XXXX]. Untagged SMS is ignored — nothing else reads or interferes with your inbox.

REQUEST · outgoing
KaizenLocator: Sujit is asking your location. Reply via the app or ignore. [KZL-REQ:a8c2]

SOS request · outgoing
KaizenLocator: 🚨 EMERGENCY — Sujit is requesting your location urgently. Please respond. [KZL-SOS:a8c2]

SMS rates apply per your carrier. No data charges — ever.

Privacy by design

Nothing leaves your phone except SMS you authorise.

No cloud accounts. No login. No analytics. No crash reporting. No telemetry. Zero servers in the entire data path. Your trust list, your block list, your policy, your ping history — everything is stored locally on your device. We don’t see anything because there’s nothing to see.

  • No HTTP backends — the app makes zero network calls except (optionally) for reverse-geocoding addresses
  • SMS is the only IPC channel — if you trust SMS, you can trust Locator
  • Trust list, block list, ping history: SharedPreferences on-device only
  • Open about exactly what permissions are requested and why — see Help » Permissions
  • License check is the only server call — and even that is silent on free tier

Common questions

Yes — both phones need the app. Locator routes the location reply automatically using the [KZL-…] tag. If the other phone doesn’t have Locator, your SMS arrives in their normal inbox as a regular text and they can reply manually if they choose.
SMS works when nothing else does. Tunnels, basements, planes, congested networks, low-data areas, switched-off mobile data — all situations where Internet apps fail but SMS still squeezes through. It also works on a basic feature phone for the receiver if you don’t care about app routing.
Yes — that’s the whole point. Android allows audio on the system alarm stream to bypass silent and Do Not Disturb (this is what your morning alarm app uses). Locator plays SOS audio on that exact stream, plus shows a full-screen-intent notification that lights up the lock screen. Tested on Android 8 through 14.
Three layers of defence: only Family-tier contacts can fire SOS (you choose who is Family), SOS is rate-limited to once per 5 minutes per contact, and the receiver can STOP and remove Family instantly if abused. Default policy for new contacts is Ask each time — nobody is Family until you mark them.
No. Locator never reads or stores your location until someone you’ve trusted pings you. It uses background location only to fulfil that single request, then stops. Nothing is logged to a server (there are none).
SMS (send/receive/read) for the routing protocol. Location (fine, coarse, background) to fulfil pings. Contacts (read) to map phone numbers to names. Wake-lock + foreground service to complete a reply before Doze kills the process. Vibrate + full-screen-intent for the SOS alarm. Full breakdown with reasoning »
No. Locator is event-driven — it does nothing in the background until an SMS arrives with the right tag. GPS only fires for a few seconds during a reply. The only time you’ll see significant usage is if you enable Recurring Auto-Pings, and even then only for the GPS-fix duration.
Not yet — Android only. iOS doesn’t allow apps to read incoming SMS or reply automatically, which is the core of the protocol. Both sender and receiver must be on Android.
Each ping is a single SMS — costs whatever your carrier charges per text. In India that’s typically free under most packs, or ₹1 per SMS on basic plans. Internationally, varies. Zero data charges, ever.
