Install Kaizen Locator on Android
Locator is currently sideload-only (not on Play Store yet). It’s a 30-second process. Both you and the person you’ll ping need it installed.
Download the APK
Tap the link below or open it on the phone you’re installing on:
Hosted on our Azure Blob CDN. ~25 MB. Updated periodically.
Allow Install from Unknown Sources
When you tap the APK, Android will block it the first time. You’ll see a prompt: “For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source.”
Tap Settings in that dialog → toggle Allow from this source. Then go back and tap the APK again.
This setting is per-app (e.g., per-browser). Granting it to Chrome doesn’t affect anything else.
Install
Tap Install in the package installer screen. Takes ~5 seconds. Tap Open when it’s done.
First-launch onboarding
Locator walks you through:
- Pick your preferred language
- Set your display name (used in outgoing pings: “YourName is asking your location”)
- Pick a default policy for new senders — we strongly recommend leaving it on Ask each time
- Grant the required permissions one at a time (see Permissions explained)
Add at least one trusted contact
Open the Contacts tab → + Add Trusted. Pick from your phonebook or enter a phone number manually. Set their policy to Always allow if you trust them with your location, otherwise leave on Ask each time.
If they’re an emergency contact (your child’s school, an ageing parent, your spouse), mark them as Family — that gives them SOS-alarm access. Read more about Family & SOS.
Test it
Send yourself a ping by entering your own number on the Compose screen. You should receive a request, then a reply, with your own location displayed. If that round-trip works, you’re ready.
