Browser Tab Change

Auto Mouse Click can automatically cycle through open browser tabs on a timer. This is perfect for monitoring multiple web pages, dashboards, data feeds, or any scenario where you need to periodically view several tabs without manual interaction.

Overview

Browser tab cycling automates the Ctrl+Tab keyboard shortcut that switches between tabs in any web browser. Auto Mouse Click sends Ctrl+Tab keypresses at configurable intervals, rotating through all open tabs in sequence.

Supported browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Brave
  • Opera
  • Vivaldi
  • Any browser that supports Ctrl+Tab for tab switching

Setting Up Tab Cycling

Basic Setup

  1. Open Auto Mouse Click.
  2. Navigate to Browser Tab settings (or Tab Cycling in some versions).
  3. Enable Browser Tab Cycling.
  4. Set the tab interval -- how long to display each tab before switching:
Interval Use Case
5 seconds Quick overview of all tabs
10 seconds Brief content review
30 seconds Standard monitoring (recommended)
60 seconds Extended viewing per tab
5 minutes Infrequent cycling
  1. Click Start.

Browser Must Be in Focus

Tab cycling only works when the browser window is the active (foreground) window. If another application is in focus, the Ctrl+Tab keypress will be sent to that application instead. Use App Switching to ensure the browser stays in focus, or dedicate your display to the browser.

Step-by-Step Example

Let's say you have 5 monitoring dashboards open in Chrome tabs:

  1. Open all 5 dashboards in separate Chrome tabs.
  2. Open Auto Mouse Click.
  3. Set tab interval to 30 seconds.
  4. Click Start.
  5. Auto Mouse Click cycles through all 5 tabs, showing each for 30 seconds.

Each tab is displayed for exactly 30 seconds before switching to the next. After the last tab, cycling returns to the first tab and continues.

Advanced Tab Settings

Forward and Backward Cycling

By default, tab cycling moves forward through tabs (left to right). You can also configure reverse cycling:

Direction Keyboard Shortcut Effect
Forward Ctrl+Tab Moves to the next tab (right)
Backward Ctrl+Shift+Tab Moves to the previous tab (left)

To set the direction:

  1. In Browser Tab settings, find the Direction option.
  2. Select Forward or Backward.

Specific Tab by Number

Jump directly to a specific tab by its position number instead of cycling sequentially:

Keyboard Shortcut Effect
Ctrl+1 Switch to tab 1
Ctrl+2 Switch to tab 2
Ctrl+3 Switch to tab 3
... ...
Ctrl+9 Switch to the last tab

To use numbered tab switching:

  1. In Browser Tab settings, select Specific Tabs mode.
  2. Add each tab number you want to cycle through.
  3. Set the interval for each tab (same or different).
Tab Number View Duration
Ctrl+1 (Main Dashboard) 30 seconds
Ctrl+3 (Server Status) 20 seconds
Ctrl+5 (Email) 10 seconds

This is useful when you want to skip certain tabs or spend different amounts of time on each tab.

Tab Number Limit

Ctrl+1 through Ctrl+8 switch to tabs 1--8 by position. Ctrl+9 always switches to the last tab, regardless of how many tabs are open. This is standard browser behavior.

Combining Tab Cycling with Other Features

Tab Cycling + Auto Click

Automatically click a specific position on each tab after switching:

  1. Set up browser tab cycling.
  2. In the After Switch section, configure:
    • Wait: 1000 ms (let the page load/render)
    • Click: Fixed position (e.g., a Refresh button)
  3. Start the automation.

This is useful for dashboards that require a manual refresh or have interactive elements.

Tab Cycling + App Switching

If you need to monitor browser tabs AND other applications:

  1. Set up App Switching to include your browser and other apps.
  2. Set up browser tab cycling to run when the browser is in focus.
  3. The workflow:
    • Auto Mouse Click switches to the browser.
    • Tab cycling runs for several cycles.
    • Auto Mouse Click switches to the next application.
    • Returns to the browser and continues cycling.

Tab Cycling + Screenshot

Combine with a screenshot tool to capture each tab's content:

  1. Set up tab cycling with a sufficient interval (at least 5 seconds per tab).
  2. Use Windows' built-in screenshot (Win+Shift+S) or a third-party tool to capture the screen.
  3. Or use Auto Mouse Click's macro feature to automate the screenshot shortcut after each tab switch.

Use Cases

Server Monitoring

Monitor multiple server dashboards displayed in browser tabs:

Setting Value
Tabs open 6 monitoring dashboards
Interval 30 seconds per tab
After-switch action Wait 2 seconds, then scroll down once
Total cycle time 3 minutes

Kiosk / Digital Signage

Display rotating content on a large screen or TV:

Setting Value
Tabs open Marketing slides, social feed, news, metrics
Interval 15 seconds per tab
Browser Full-screen mode (F11)
Loop Continuous

Full-Screen Kiosk Mode

For kiosk or signage displays, press F11 in your browser to enter full-screen mode before starting tab cycling. This hides the browser toolbar and address bar for a cleaner presentation.

Price Monitoring

Track prices across multiple e-commerce sites:

Setting Value
Tabs open Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, Walmart product pages
Interval 60 seconds per tab
After-switch action Click Refresh (fixed position)
Loop Continuous

News and Social Feed Monitoring

Keep up with multiple news sources and social feeds:

Setting Value
Tabs open Twitter, Reddit, CNN, BBC, tech news
Interval 20 seconds per tab
After-switch action Scroll down 3 clicks
Loop Continuous

Settings Reference

Setting Description Default
Tab interval Time to display each tab 15 seconds
Direction Forward (Ctrl+Tab) or Backward (Ctrl+Shift+Tab) Forward
Mode Sequential or Specific tabs Sequential
After-switch delay Pause after switching before performing actions 500 ms
After-switch action Click, scroll, or none None

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
Tabs do not switch Ensure the browser is the active/foreground window
Wrong tab is selected Use Specific Tabs mode with Ctrl+number instead of sequential cycling
Switching is too fast for page to load Increase the tab interval or add an after-switch delay
Tab cycling works but clicks miss their target Increase the after-switch delay so the page renders before clicking
Works in Chrome but not Firefox Both browsers support Ctrl+Tab. Restart Firefox and try again
Tab cycling stops unexpectedly A dialog box or popup may have stolen focus. Close it and restart
