Kid Profiles

Kid profiles let you create personalized settings for each child who uses the computer. Each profile has its own set of restrictions, time limits, and content filters tailored to the child's age and needs.

Creating a Kid Profile

  1. Open Focus settings with the admin password.
  2. Navigate to Parental > Kid Profiles.
  3. Click Add Profile.
  4. Enter the profile details:
    • Name -- Your child's name
    • Age -- Used to suggest age-appropriate default settings
    • Avatar -- Choose a fun icon for the profile (optional)
    • Windows account -- Link to a Windows user account if the child has their own login
  5. Click Create.

Age-Based Defaults

When you enter the child's age, Focus suggests default settings:

Age Group Default Settings
Under 7 Strict filtering, 1 hour daily limit, educational sites allowed
7-12 Moderate filtering, 2 hours daily limit, age-appropriate sites
13-17 Light filtering, 3 hours daily limit, social media limited

Starting Point

These defaults are suggestions. Customize them to match your family's rules and your child's maturity level. You can adjust any setting at any time.

Profile Settings

Each kid profile includes:

Screen Time Limits

  • Daily limit -- Maximum total screen time per day
  • Per-app limits -- Specific limits for individual apps (e.g., 30 minutes for games)
  • Session limits -- Maximum continuous usage before a break is required

Content Filtering

  • Category filters -- Block entire categories of websites (see Category Filtering)
  • Custom block list -- Add specific websites to block
  • Custom allow list -- Ensure specific educational sites are always accessible

Schedule

  • Free time periods -- Define when the child can use the computer (see Free Time Periods)
  • Bedtime -- Automatically block the computer after a set time

Switching Between Profiles

If multiple children share a computer:

  • Each child selects their profile on the Focus lock screen
  • The child's specific rules are applied automatically
  • Switching profiles requires the admin password to prevent bypassing

Managing Profiles

View all kid profiles in a dashboard showing:

  • Name and age
  • Daily screen time used vs. limit
  • Active restrictions
  • Last activity

Edit or delete profiles at any time. Deleting a profile removes its settings but you can choose to keep activity history.
