How to Block Gaming Sites¶
This guide covers blocking gaming websites, online gaming platforms, and gaming-related content to reduce distractions.
Block Gaming Websites¶
- Open Focus settings (admin password required).
- Go to Domain Management > Block List.
- Add the following common gaming domains:
store.steampowered.com
steampowered.com
epicgames.com
roblox.com
minecraft.net
twitch.tv
itch.io
kongregate.com
miniclip.com
poki.com
crazygames.com
addictinggames.com
armorgames.com
newgrounds.com
- Click Save.
Use the Pre-Built Gaming List¶
For a more comprehensive block:
- Go to Domain Management > Pre-Built Lists
- Enable the Gaming list
- This blocks dozens of gaming sites, platforms, and browser game portals
Comprehensive Coverage
The pre-built gaming list is regularly updated with new gaming sites. It is more thorough than manually adding individual domains.
Block Gaming in Parental Mode¶
For parents using category filtering:
- Navigate to Parental > [Child's Name] > Category Filtering
- Block the Gaming category
- This automatically blocks known gaming websites
Also consider blocking:
- Video Streaming category (to block Twitch and gaming streams)
- Forums & Communities category (to block gaming forums like Reddit gaming subreddits)
Block Gaming Applications¶
In addition to websites, block gaming applications installed on the computer:
- Go to App Groups
- Create a group called "Games" (or use the default Games group)
- Add all gaming applications: Steam, Epic Games Launcher, Roblox, Minecraft, etc.
- Set the group to Blocked or apply a strict time limit

Allow Gaming at Specific Times¶
If you want to permit gaming during certain hours:
- Create an App Group for games
- Set a daily time limit (e.g., 1 hour on weekdays, 2 hours on weekends)
- Configure a schedule for when gaming is allowed
Example Gaming Schedule¶
| Day | Allowed Hours | Time Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Mon-Thu | 5 PM - 8 PM | 1 hour |
| Friday | 4 PM - 9 PM | 2 hours |
| Sat-Sun | 10 AM - 9 PM | 3 hours |
Block Browser-Based Games¶
Browser games can bypass app-level blocks. To prevent this:
- Block gaming websites as described above
- Add the keyword "game" to the keyword block list for broader coverage
- Enable the Gaming category in category filtering
Keyword Blocking
Keyword blocking for "game" may also block legitimate sites that contain the word "game" (e.g., educational game theory sites). Review the block log periodically and add exceptions to the allow list as needed.
