How to Block Facebook¶
This guide shows you how to completely block Facebook on your computer using Focus. These instructions work in all three modes (Productivity, Employee, and Parental).
Quick Method¶
- Open Focus settings (admin password required).
- Go to Domain Management > Block List.
- Click Add.
- Enter
facebook.com. - Click Save.
This immediately blocks all Facebook pages, including the main site, Messenger, and mobile versions.
Complete Facebook Block¶
To ensure all Facebook-related domains are blocked, add the following entries:
facebook.com
messenger.com
fbcdn.net
facebook.net
fb.com
fb.me
fbsbx.com
One-Click Block
Instead of adding domains manually, use the Social Media pre-built list in Domain Management. This blocks Facebook along with other social media platforms.
Blocking the Facebook App¶
If Facebook's desktop app or a Progressive Web App (PWA) is installed:
- Go to App Limits or App Groups
- Find the Facebook app in the application list
- Set its daily limit to 0 minutes or add it to a blocked app group
Blocking Facebook in Parental Mode¶
For Parental Mode, the easiest approach is to block the Social Media category in Category Filtering. This blocks Facebook along with all other social media platforms.
If you want to allow some social media but block Facebook specifically:
- Leave the Social Media category unblocked
- Add
facebook.comand related domains to the block list manually
Verifying the Block¶
After adding the block:
- Open any web browser
- Navigate to
facebook.com - You should see the Focus block page instead of Facebook

DNS Cache
After adding a block, it may take a moment to take effect due to DNS caching. If the site still loads, wait a minute and try again, or restart your browser.
Schedule-Based Blocking¶
To block Facebook only during certain hours (e.g., work hours):
- Add
facebook.comto the block list - Set the rule schedule to your desired hours
- Facebook will be accessible outside those hours
