Admin Password¶
The admin password protects Focus settings from unauthorized changes. It ensures that restrictions cannot be easily bypassed by the person being monitored (whether that is yourself in Productivity Mode, an employee, or a child).
Why an Admin Password?¶
Without password protection, anyone could simply open Focus and disable all restrictions. The admin password is required to:
- Open the Focus settings panel
- Pause or disable restrictions
- Add or remove blocked websites and apps
- Change time limits and schedules
- Switch between modes
- Uninstall Focus
Setting Your Password¶
You create your admin password during the Setup Wizard. Choose a password that is:
- At least 8 characters long
- Not easily guessable
- Different from common passwords you use elsewhere
Remember Your Password
There is no password reset option within the app. If you forget your admin password, you will need to contact [email protected] for assistance with account recovery.
Changing Your Password¶
To update your admin password:
- Click the Focus system tray icon and select Settings
- Enter your current admin password to access settings
- Go to Security > Change Password
- Enter your current password, then enter and confirm the new password
- Click Save
Password Best Practices¶
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Use a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols | Use simple words like "password" or "1234" |
| Choose something memorable to you | Write it on a sticky note near the computer |
| Store it in a password manager | Share it with the person being monitored |
| Change it periodically | Use the same password as your Windows login |
Mode-Specific Considerations¶
Productivity Mode¶
In this mode, you are restricting yourself. Choose a password that is inconvenient enough that you will not be tempted to bypass restrictions during moments of weakness. Consider having a trusted friend or family member set the password.
Employee Mode¶
Keep the admin password known only to managers or IT administrators. Do not share it with monitored employees.
Parental Mode¶
Keep the password secret from your children. Avoid using passwords your children might guess, such as birthdays, pet names, or other family-related words.
